What is Hi Chew Candy?

Hi-chews are a soft and chewy candies originally made in Japan in 1975 by Morinaga. All Hi chew has two layers: the outer layer is white with same flavor for all hi chew candy (a little bit vanilla yogurt like taste, but less sweet), the inner layer is flavored to various flavor.

Hi-chews have similar texture as bubble gum but they never lose their flavors. You get the same great taste in every chew until it melts in your mouth. A wonderfully delicious treat for everyone.

The Hi chew are now made both in and outside of Japan. Taiwan produces most of Non-Japan Made Hi Chew. The flavor might be the same, but the package size is much smaller. Beware the price: it might look cheaper, but you are also getting less (15% less ) too.

The Japanese version of Hi Chew is 2.01 Oz pack, with only Japanese on it.There are 12 pieces in each pack. There are only 3 flavors that are available year around:

All these three are well accepted flavors. They are all available in 12 packs value case. They are great for many occasions: birthday, shower, Party or holiday.

There are couple other Japanese Candy makers who make soft chewy candies, which are very similar to Morinaga Hi Chew, yet with different twist. We found two that are very good. I especially like Calpis’ Yogurt based Hi Chew for its well balanced sweet and sour.
Calpis

Calpis is a Japanese lactic acid fermented Soft Drink Maker. The beverage has a light, milky, and slightly acidic flavor. It is very much like Yogurt Drink.

How many Hi Chew Have You ever Tried?

There are many other seasonal Hi Chew, Usually they are only available for 6 months each year. Whenever we receive new Hi Chew, We will announce in PierMallBlog. So have a look there. So when you see new one coming in, give them a try, since once they are gone, they are gone forever (or at least couple years..). Following are the Hi Chew we sold in the past 3 years.
