Kasugai Ramune Iro Iro Candy & Abekko - Kudamono Gashi Ramune Soda Candies
Posted under Sweets & Snacks by VictoriaIn Japanese, Iro Iro means “This or That”. Just as their name implies, Kasugai Ramune Iro Iro Lemonade candies are basically a mix of jumbo Smarties of all different sizes and flavors. The main difference is that these melt in your mouth a lot faster than Smarties do, and crumble more easily. They can be quite powdery. Personally, I prefer to let them melt, rather than biting into them.
The candy is a lot fruitier, and the flavors are more varied than Smarties. Flavors include pineapple, strawberry, orange, and lemon. Although the packaging does say “fruits lemonade” and “sour candy”, these are not in fact very sour at all, and only some of the candy is lemon-flavored.
The packaging is cheerful and colorful, too. The candy is wrapped in single large pieces, packs of six small pieces of varying flavors, packs of six medium-sized pieces of a single or varying flavors, and packs of ten fairly large pieces (shaped like thin, hard Lifesavers) of varying flavors.
Children tend to like these, because of their colorful wrappings and similarity to Smarties.
A sweet alternative to this would be the Abekko - Kudamono Gashi Ramune Soda Candies. They are pretty much the same, with all the same flavors, but with the added bonus flavor - grape. Unfortunately, there are no size variations - just small sized. Each set of samplers consists of 10 packets, connected to make a strand of candy. There are perforations separating each packet, so it’s easier to remove one packet at a time. It’s a great way to sample a bit of each and discover you favorite flavor!
