Home made ice cream in a bag

Shinobi came back from his summer camp and was excited: they made the chocolate ice cream in a bag! So we had to reproduce his project at home. We modified his ingredients, since we don’t have any chocolate syrup at home. We made two bags: green tea ice cream and mint chocolate ice cream. Here are the recipes and what we did:

What you’ll need for green tea ice cream:

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk or half & half
  • 1 teaspoon vita life green tea powder
  • 6 tablespoons rock salt (your table salt will work too)
  • 1 Ziploc plastic sandwich bag (e.g., Ziploc)
  • 1 gallon-size ziploc plastic food storage bag
  • Ice cubes

What you’ll need for mint chocolate ice cream:

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk or half & half
  • 1 tablespoon  Trader Joe’s mint chocolate powder (you may substitute it with chocolate syrups)
  • 6 tablespoons rock salt (your table salt will work too)
  • 1 Ziploc plastic sandwich bag (e.g., Ziploc)
  • 1 gallon-size ziploc plastic food storage bag
  • Ice cubes

How to make it:

  1. Put milk, green tea powder or mint chocolate powder (choice one) , and sugar into the small bag, and make sure to seal it. securely.
  2. Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the salt.
  3. Place the small bag inside the large one, and seal the large bag carefully.
  4. Shake the large bag until the mixture in the small bag become ice cream, which takes about 5 ~ 10 minutes.
  5. Wipe off the top of the small bag, then open it carefully. Enjoy!
